HRAG’s Photography Collection is of national significance and pays tribute to the Gallery’s original and progressive objective to build a collection focusing on Australian photography.
|
Early acquisitions made in the 1970’s were very strong. Excellent work by early Australian photographers including Max Dupain and David Moore, as well as leading contemporary practitioners Bill Henson and Carol Jerrems were acquired, establishing a strong base for the future of the collection. |
In 1997 HRAG was the first public collection to acquire Matthew Sleeth’s work and recently acquired 2 new works by this now internationally recognised Australian artist. Other recent acquisitions include work by Tony Albert, Fiona Foley, Matthew Griffin and Charles Green & Lyndell Brown.
