NINE TO FIVE – IMAGES OF WORK: December 7, 2004 – March 6, 2005 (Mann Gallery). Documentary images of people in the workplace. The exhibition includes Matthew Sleeth’s series of the Cox and Rizetti Foundry in Collingwood; John Immig’s images of the Afghan refugees abattoir at Young, NSW; Ian Hawthorne’s photographs of English photographer Norman Parkinson at work; Wolfgang Sievers’ “Ropemaking”; and a number of images by John Werrett who documented many workplaces in the early 1990s.

A collection of 41 Sleeth photographs was donated to HRAG by Patrick Corrigan in 2004. These images from Sleeth’s book “Roaring Days” include Silver’s Circus and Cox and Rizetti Foundry. Curated by Trevor Smith.

Photo-documentary work by Sydney photographer, Margaret Waller. She explores ideas of “exotic” and “familiar” by juxtaposing images from southern Africa with related subjects from the Horsham region.

A TRIBUTE TO IRIS FRAME

Naïve paintings by South Australian artist Iris Frame (1915—2003). She was an eccentric artist who created imaginative mystical characters for her colourful paintings. The exhibition includes themes of autobiography, narrative, religion and fantasy. Curated  by Paul Greenaway, Adelaide

PILLOWS OF TEARS AND TEARS OF SHAME

An installation by The Baxter Mums, a group of artists who support asylum seekers at Baxter Detention Centre. Paintings, textiles, sculptures and text examine the refugees’ journey to Australia and their treatment, held under Australia's Immigration Laws.

Cows have been an ongoing subject of artist Ivan Durrant. His 'portraits' of cows range from super realist through to abstract.
