EXHIBITIONS 2009
Redeemeing the Ruin

19 March – 10 May, 2009  (Handbury Gallery)

Commodities are coveted for what they signify – power, wealth, prestige – rather than for intrinsic value, hence quickly become obsolete and are discarded. Ten artists create sculptures or installations that encourage reflection on consumer behaviour, the objects we covet and why. Salvaging post-consumer waste, the artists consider what can be redeemed, what truths can be revealed, while providing insight into the nature of consumerism and the ramification of unfettered consumption.
A touring exhibition, curated by Wendy Garden and Maree Pollard, from Banyule City Council.
